FIAlab SIChrom is the first commercial LC instrument based on the concept of sequential injection. Sequential Injection Chromatography uses programmable flow, instead of continuous flow, with sequential injection of sample and eluting solutions. The instrument features a simple and robust construction consisting of:

  • - bidirectional syringe pump,
  • - a multi-position valve
  • - column
  • - and detector.

All parameters of separation protocol and data collection is controlled by FIAlab software. This eliminates the need for the reconfiguration of instrument hardware.

A high precision, stepper-motor-driven syringe pump allows precise liquid metering at forward and reversed flow with pressures up to 500 psi.


Advantages of SI Chromatography 

The principal advantages of the SI Chromatography technique are:

  1. Versatility of operation, as sample and eluent volumes is defined by the software script.
  2. Allows derivatization prior to separation.
  3. Has ability to accelerate auxiliary functions such as gradient formation, column conditioning and washout.
  4. The typical SIChrom system is smaller and cost less than a HPLC instrument.

Example: Separation and Derivatization of Amino Acids

FIAlab SIChrom graphSI Chromatography is particularly useful whenever pre-column derivatization is required, such as the separation and assay of amino acids. This chromatogram is a result of on-line amino acid derivatization by sequencing aliquots of sample solution and OPA derivatization reagent into a holding coil followed by a subsequent separation.
